Everyone on the planet will soon be interconnected. This achievement was made possible by tremendous advances in wireless technology, and equally rapid cost reductions. However, 6G still has serious unresolved challenges. We at UltraLogic 6G, LLC have developed novel and effective solutions to the most urgent 6G roadblocks, and we are now privileged to offer them to the wireless community.

  • All messages in 6G will use narrow beams for efficiency. However, the 6G beam alignment procedure involves tedious and costly beam-scanning with feedback. Our new solution proposes instead to align all the users at the same time, using a short "angle-dependent alignment pulse", transmitted by the base station. The alignment pulse sends a different phase in each direction. Each user measures the received phase at its location, and instantly determines its own alignment direction. With just a single pulse, all of the users in the network become fully aligned, simultaneously, without beam-scanning!

  • Higher frequencies in 6G are essential for access to larger bandwidths, but phase-noise is a problem at higher frequencies. The planned modulation scheme, QAM, provides very limited phase margins (for example, 37° in 16QAM), which results in frequent phase faults. Instead, our novel solution used multiplexed amplitude-phase waveform modulation, because this provides a full 90° phase margin in every state, greatly reducing the phase fault rate. The transmitted power and throughput are exactly the same as with QAM, and the receiver works exactly the same by separating the usual I and Q branches. But then the demodulator converts the I and Q amplitudes back to the waveform amplitude and phase values for demodulation. The larger phase margins greatly reduce phase faults, at zero cost. In addition, amplitude-phase modulation enables fault diagnosis by fault type (which QAM does not) and asymmetric modulation for network optimization (which QAM does not).

  • A third problem is low signal quality, caused by the increased pathloss, network crowding, and the rapid cadence of 6G. This results in frequent message faults (different from phase-noise faults). The current response to any fault is automatically requesting a retransmission or the bulky forward-error-correction data. Our solution proposes instead for the receiver to correct the fault itself, using waveform information that is currently discarded. Based on specific waveform signatures, the receiver can localize and correct each fault immediately, without a costly retransmission.

  • Hardware compatibility.  The solutions disclosed in UltraLogic 6G patents are fully backward-compatible with existing 4G and 5G hardware equipment, and are forward-compatible with proposed 6G Standards. Developers and service providers can implement these solutions in present 4G and 5G systems with confidence, knowing that they will perform as expected - and will continue to perform when subsequently upgraded to 6G.  These method improvements can be applied in today's transmitters and receivers, with a regular software upgrade.  The UL6G patented solutions improve network performance with software, no hardware changes required.
